In the past, butter stayed fresh when placed in water. Le Creuset's stoneware butter crock utilizes this principle by ensuring that the butter remains spreadable at room temperature. To use it, simply place six ounces (equivalent to approximately 1-1/2 sticks) of butter in the cup located underneath the lid. Fill the crock one-third of the way up with cold water, and then insert the lid/cup into the water, creating an airtight seal. When you're ready to spread the butter, simply open the lid and place it on its wide, flat knob. For optimal results, it is recommended to change the water every few days.

This butter crock is made in Thailand using high-fired stoneware and a non-porous enamel glaze. As a result, it won't absorb odors or flavors, and it is resistant to staining and chipping.
